Upper Blepharoplasty Surgery Technique

Upper eyelid surgery is medically referred to as upper blepharoplasty. It is the process of cutting and removing the sagging tissue on the eyelids. The incision location in this surgery is very important. If care is not taken, it may remain as a serious scar on the lid above the eye. Excess tissue should be removed by making an incision from the folded area of the eye with the sagging tissue lid on the upper eyelid. Thus, an extra advantage is provided in terms of traces. With age, the eyelid may fall. this can reduce or even prevent vision. Necessary intervention to the leverage muscle of the eyelid can also be done through the same incision.

Lower Blepharoplasty (Under Eye Bag Aesthetics) Surgery Technique

There are 2 methods for the lower eyelid.

Lower eyelid incision (subciliary) applied from the outside of the lower eyelid

The name of this technique is generally known as subciliary. With a small incision made just below the eyelash structure, the excess parts of the under-eye bags can be removed. If necessary, stretching can also be done.

Transconjunctival (without incision) applied to the inner surface of the eyelid

The patient group in which this technique is preferred are those who are younger. The reason is related to the fact that the excess tissue in the skin part is not stretched and removed. Drawings are made to determine the technique to be performed before the surgery. Precautions are also taken to prevent damage to the cornea of the eye during the surgery. If there is laxity or loss of elasticity in the eyelids, or if the places of the eyelids are not compatible with the face and do not look natural, the eye can be shaped by changing the location of the canthus. This is also included in the scope of almond eye aesthetics, which has been heard a lot lately.

Before Blepharoplasty Operation

Dry eye, severe myopia, aspirin or smoking use, hypertension, diabetes and other systemic diseases will be questioned. The other questions that will be discussed:

"Is there a need for forehead lift, eyebrow lifting or a midface intervention?"
"Is there a need for Botox for eye contour and crow's feet?"
"Is there a drooping (ptosis) in the upper eyelids?"
"Is it necessary to fill with a fat graft for grooves and buckling?"

The excess in the lower and upper lids, bags under and above the eyes are determined in this examination. The placement of the surgical scars is on the upper lid fold. Lower eyelid surgery can be performed from the inside of the eyelid, or it will be located just below the lower eyelashes.

For people who are young but have a small amount of sagging or loose lids, "pinch" blepharoplasty is an easy, fast and non-disruptive option.

Eyelids are the areas covered with the thinnest skin in the whole body. These regions are the most advantageous regions in terms of traces. There is no noticeable scar after the operation.

Before the surgery, if used, aspirin and derivative blood thinners should be discontinued one week before; Stopping cigarette, alcohol and herbal tea consumption a week before the operation will speed up the healing process.

After Blepharoplasty Operation

You may need to stay in the hospital for 1-2 days to be under observation for complications after eyelid surgery. If no problem has developed, you will be discharged from the hospital and your doctor will inform you about what you need to pay attention to at home. After the operation, you can temporarily observe the following conditions:

Blurred vision brought on by lubricating eye drops.

• Watering eyes
• Light sensitivity
• Double vision
• Puffy, numb eyelids
• Swelling and bruising
• Pain or discomfort

After the practices we have done in our clinic, we make the following suggestions for your practice. The night after surgery, place ice packs over your eyes for 10 minutes each hour. The next day, apply ice packs to your eyes four to five times throughout the day. Gently clean your eyelids and use prescription eye drops or ointments. For a week, avoid straining, heavy lifting, and exertion such as swimming and sexual activity. Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption. Never rub your eyes. If you wear contact lenses, you should avoid wearing them for about two weeks after surgery. Wear dark sunglasses to protect the skin of your eyelids from the sun and wind. Sleep with your head elevated above your chest for a few days. Apply cold compresses to reduce swelling. After a few days, see your doctor to have the stitches removed if needed.
