What is Veneers?

Dental veneer, which is also considered as a kind of dental restoration, is the process of closing the teeth with certain materials and bridges for both functional and aesthetic appearance. For functional purposes, it is often used in tooth decay, broken tooth fillings, tooth extraction and treatment of cavities in the mouth. It is used as a therapeutic method, especially in cases such as caries, when the filling cannot be filled and cannot be repaired. If there is a visible discoloration of the teeth or serious problems in their form, then tooth coating can be applied. Sometimes teeth are required to be etched for dental veneers. This abrasion varies according to the prosthesis to be made and the aesthetic expectation of the person. Sometimes, it is possible to make tooth coating without abrasion. This is completely related to the treatment process of the person.

Before Veneers Operation

  • Not all dental caries require veneer: Minor caries on teeth generally do not require veneer. In such cases, filling treatment, which is another form of restorative dentistry, is preferred. In some cases, caries may have progressed to the roots of the teeth. In this case, root canal treatment is performed before the veneer is applied to support the vulnerable teeth. To determine whether a veneer is necessary, the structural condition of the tooth is examined. Infected roots and large-scale caries degrade the structure of a tooth much faster and more severely. In this case, a coating is most likely needed. In milder cases of dental caries, a filling treatment will typically suffice.
  • Veneers may also be required after filling: For minor cavities, filling is the best solution. However, this practice does not completely eliminate the need for coatings in the future. Cavities can endanger the tooth structure even after filling application.
  • Tooth decay isn't the only reason for veneers: Excessive cavities and cavities are just a few reasons the dentists recommend veneers. Other reasons for coating include:
  1. Cosmetic reasons: The dentist may recommend veneers on teeth that are discolored or stained so that they blend better with neighboring teeth.
  2. Implants: Veneers can wonderfully cover implants.
  3. Dental bridges or dentures: Veneers may be preferred to fully attach dentures to the dental bridge or dentures.
  • No type of veneer lasts a lifetime: Like teeth, the life of veneers will depend on how well they are cared for. To prolong the life of veneers, protective dental equipment should be worn for clenching and sticky or hard foods should be avoided. Teeth should be brushed at least twice a day and floss should be used. If such healthy oral hygiene habits are neglected, bacteria accumulate under the veneers and the teeth become weak again.
  • Veneers can be fitted in a single session: In the past years, it took several sessions to install veneers. Today, however, veneers are easily installed in a single session. This is very important for people with a busy schedule.

After Veneers

There is no special application to be done after the tooth coating is completed. What is recommended for normal teeth also are applied to veneers. But it must be approached with precision. Excessive heat or excessive cold consumption should be avoided. Teeth should be brushed twice a day and floss should be used when necessary. The use of mouthwash is also recommended.

Paying attention to these after coating will extend the life of the veneers. What can be experienced after dental veneer It is very normal to feel a foreignness in the mouth after dental veneers are made. Even after a simple filling procedure, the feeling of excess in the mouth causes the tongue to constantly feel it. These are normal at first, but if this feeling of size does not go away by 3 weeks or if the feeling of height does not go away until 2 days and causes problems such as snagging or bumping while eating, they should be discussed with the dentist. This problem will be solved with a little etching. In addition, cheek tissues, which are soft tissues in the mouth, may have grown into tooth areas that have been empty for a long time. After the veneer is done, biting may occur without noticing while eating. If this creates a very serious problem, the edges of the prosthesis can be corrected with a special procedure. Finally, it should not be forgotten that prostheses are man-made. If there is a lot of bad breath and bleeding and bruising of the gums, it may be possible to think that the oral care is not done correctly, and the prosthesis is made in a wrong way that will put excessive pressure on the gums. Because excessive pressure on the gums will adversely affect the blood circulation there, causing bruising and bleeding. In such cases, it is necessary to consult the physician again and correct the prosthesis.

The healing process after veneer teeth will generally take a few days. In this process, the body will get rid of the irritation and inflammation associated with the application. Patients may experience temporary tenderness, discomfort, or pain after the application. In addition to all these, the following should be considered after veneer teeth:

Numbness from Anesthesia:

If local anesthesia was used during the coating procedure, numbness may be present in the mouth for a few hours after the application. During this period, many patients may unknowingly damage the inside of the mouth because they cannot feel the stimuli such as heat or pain. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid drinking hot liquids or chewing hard objects during this time. However, some bruising or inflammation may occur shortly after the application, especially in the lower jaw area. These negative conditions will disappear on their own within a few days without the need for any treatment.

Pain, Discomfort, and Tenderness:

Many patients may experience some pain or minimal discomfort in the veneered area following the veneer procedure. This condition generally resolves within a few days or weeks without any treatment. However, after the veneers are placed, some sensitivity may occur in the surrounding gums. With such discomforts, the dentist may recommend pain relievers and topical anesthetic gels to reduce pain and make patients feel more comfortable. If tenderness or pain persists for more than a few weeks or is severe, a dentist should be consulted.

Care of Temporary Veneers:

Special care is required to avoid traumatic situations as temporary veneers are much more fragile than permanent veneers. In general, patients can use their teeth normally and continue to brush. However, in order not to damage the temporary coatings, they should pay attention to the following recommendations:

  • Chewable foods such as sticky or chewing gum that can dislodge temporary coatings should be avoided.
  • Hard foods should not be consumed as they will damage the coatings.
  • For a period of time, the act of chewing should be done with the opposite teeth.
  • Flossing should be avoided while there are temporary veneers. Irregular veneer edges can irritate your gums.

Dietary and Oral Care Recommendations During Recovery:

When permanent veneers are fitted and the numbing effect of anesthetics wears off, patients can normally consume any food. However, it is best to avoid sticky foods within the first 24 hours following the permanent coating procedure. Patients should stay away from hard, sticky or chewable foods such as gum in the first place. However, after a while, such foods can be started slowly. A healthy oral care should continue to be practiced throughout life. Be aware that veneers, especially the abutment teeth, are extremely susceptible to decay along the gum line. For this reason, teeth should be brushed with fluoride toothpaste at least twice a day and floss should be used carefully every day.

Veneers in Turkey FAQ

If you don't see an answer to your question, you can send us an email from our contact form.

Your veneers may be applied in one day if there is no complication. That is why it is your choice to plan the arrival date as you wish.

5 days should be enough to ensure there is no complication after the veneers operation. So, planning accordingly.

Whether you have porcelain or composite veneers, as well as how well you take care of them, will affect how long they last. Veneers made of porcelain laminate can last for 10 to 12 years. Composite resin veneers must be replaced more frequently because they only last 4 to 8 years.

Your natural teeth won't be ruined by porcelain veneers, though! In actuality, they are made to fit over your teeth and improve their appearance.

Care must be taken of veneers and the teeth that support them. Brushing your teeth and veneers twice a day is essential. We advise selecting a toothpaste that is non-abrasive and free of gritty components like baking soda and charcoal.

No! Most patients say they experienced no pain or discomfort at all while receiving treatment. This is due to how minimally intrusive the process is. The only tooth preparation necessary for veneers is the removal of a very thin layer of enamel.

Porcelain veneers essentially do this. Dental porcelain is very stain-resistant, so even years after they are applied, your veneers will remain the same lovely, dazzling white tone. Because of this, many specialists consider them to be a long-term tooth whitening procedure.

Porcelain veneers cannot develop cavities on their own. However, the teeth they are attached to are still vulnerable to decay, therefore it is crucial that you continue to practice good oral hygiene after your treatment.

No, having veneers won't make your mouth smell unpleasant. If you don't take care of your dental hygiene, foul odors may start to form around the margins of veneers.

Both dental veneers and crowns can enhance the appearance and functionality of your teeth. The primary distinction between a veneer and a crown is that a veneer just covers the front of the tooth. Knowing which dental repair method is appropriate for you is crucial.

Depending on the dentist's skill, veneers can be removed while still leaving some of the tooth intact, although there shouldn't be any justification for doing so. Your veneers shouldn't require removal any time soon if your dentist provided a thorough consultation and they were of excellent quality and properly fitted when they were installed.

A far more powerful and long-lasting adhesive will be used to cement the veneers; however, they shouldn't be chewed on for 24 hours to allow the adhesive to properly set. You can eat up to one and a half hours after your appointment; the important first hour is when the veneers must be allowed to set without any food at all.
