What is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is the enlargement of breast tissue in men, similar to how breast growth occurs in women. This condition often develops during puberty due to abnormal hormonal changes and can lead to both psychological and aesthetic issues if it becomes a permanent condition. Gynecomastia is primarily driven by hormonal imbalances but can also be influenced by various other factors.

Gynecomastia surgery is a surgical procedure aimed at correcting excessive breast enlargement in men. This operation helps men achieve an ideal breast size, addressing what is often referred to as female-like breast formation. The causes of gynecomastia are varied and can include anything from medication side effects and hormonal imbalances to genetic predispositions.

Gynecomastia surgery is tailored to remove excess breast tissue, thereby alleviating any associated psychological or physical discomfort. This procedure not only helps restore a more masculine chest contour but also addresses the underlying issues causing the breast enlargement. If you're experiencing gynecomastia, Turkey offers advanced surgical solutions to effectively treat this condition and enhance your overall quality of life.

Gynecomastia Surgery Techniques in Turkey

Gynecomastia surgery in Turkey has evolved significantly from older methods that involved the complete removal of breast tissue through incisions at the nipple, often leading to rib cage deformation. This traditional approach is rarely employed today except in highly specific cases. Currently, less invasive techniques such as classic liposuction are generally sufficient to address the enlargement of breasts due to excess fatty tissue. For more pronounced glandular enlargements, advanced techniques like ultrasonic or laser liposuction are utilised to enhance outcomes.

Advanced Gynecomastia Treatments:

  • Scar-Free Methods: Modern techniques ensure minimal scarring. For cases with fibrotic mammary glands, the "pull-through method" involves making short incisions to remove hardened glandular tissue, significantly reducing the visibility of scars within a few months.
  • Nipple Adjustment: In severe cases of sagging or enlarged mammary glands, especially following significant weight loss or bariatric surgery, corrective measures may include repositioning the nipple to achieve a more natural look.
  • Special Considerations for Unilateral Gynecomastia: This condition, potentially indicative of breast cancer in men, requires careful evaluation. In dubious situations, complete removal of the affected breast tissue or advanced biopsy techniques might be necessary to confirm diagnoses.

Procedure and Recovery:

Gynecomastia surgery in Turkey typically lasts between 1 to 2 hours and is performed under general anaesthesia. Post-surgery, patients are often required to wear a specialised corset and may need to stay in the hospital for at least one night. If a drain is used, it is usually removed the next day before discharge. To support the healing process and optimise the surgical outcome, wearing the corset for 3-4 weeks is crucial.

Choosing Erdem for your gynecomastia surgery ensures that you receive care from skilled surgeons using the latest techniques in state-of-the-art facilities, ensuring both effective results and recovery with minimal scarring.

Preparing for Gynecomastia Surgery in Turkey

Before Gynecomastia Surgery:

Gynecomastia surgery, crucial for addressing aesthetic concerns related to male breast enlargement, requires careful preoperative preparation. Like any major surgery, understanding what to expect and how to prepare is vital:

  • Medication and Supplements: Cease taking blood thinners such as Aspirin or Coraspin at least 10 days prior to your surgery to reduce the risk of bleeding.
  • Pre-Surgical Assessments: Undergo all necessary tests and examinations as recommended by your surgeon. These evaluations are essential to ensure the safety and success of the procedure.
  • Health and Lifestyle Disclosures: Inform your doctor about any significant medical history, including your genetic background and any chronic diseases, that might affect the surgery outcome.
  • Lifestyle Adjustments: Stop smoking and drinking alcohol at least ten days before the surgery to enhance tissue healing and reduce complication risks.
  • Fasting Before Surgery: Do not eat or drink on the day of the surgery, following the specific instructions provided by your healthcare team.

After Gynecomastia Surgery:

The postoperative phase is critical for achieving the best results and a quick recovery:

  • Immediate Post-Op: A tight dressing is applied post-surgery to minimise internal bleeding. This dressing is usually removed after two days, enhancing patient comfort. Most stitches used are dissolvable, reducing the need for removal.
  • Recovery Experience: Initially, you may experience a sensation of tightness rather than pain. Swelling and a feeling of firmness in the treated area are common but generally improve within a week.
  • Long-Term Healing: The hardness felt in the chest area will gradually decrease over three months. Most patients report significant improvement and a natural appearance six months post-surgery.
  • Daily Activities: Patients are often able to resume normal activities the day after surgery, with a progressive return to more strenuous tasks as healing advances.

By adhering to these guidelines and working closely with your surgeon in Turkey, you can navigate your gynecomastia surgery and recovery smoothly, ultimately enhancing both your appearance and confidence.

Facelift in Turkey FAQ

If you don't see an answer to your question, you can send us an email from our contact form.

The experts recommend that a few days will be enough for all your preparations to be done.

Within 7 days, it is expected to have enough time to recover and return to daily life. Then you can see as beautiful an Istanbul as you desire.

The procedure, which lasts between two and three hours, may include excision to remove fibrous glandular tissue or extra skin, as well as liposuction to remove fatty tissue. You will get general anesthesia from a board-certified anesthesiologist throughout the procedure.

There will be a recovery period following the procedure, as there is with any significant cosmetic procedure. You'll need to wear a specialized compression garment for the first week to aid in the healing process, but most patients may go back to normal life within 3 days to 2 weeks.

You do not need to spend the night in the hospital because it is a daytime procedure. Within two to three days, you can usually resume your daily activities and employment. Please wait two weeks before engaging in more strenuous chest exercises like weightlifting at the gym.

When under general anesthesia, you will be "asleep" throughout the procedure. Even if you are awake, local anesthetic makes the area numb so that you won't feel any pain. General anesthesia is typically the only choice that is secure.

On the second day following your surgery, you may take a shower. After a shower, pat the incisions to dry, gently without rubbing. For at least three weeks following surgery, be careful about bathing or swimming.

It is advised that you have a balanced meal with lots of fruits, vegetables, and protein whenever you feel ready to start eating solid foods again. For the following few weeks, you must refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol, as these activities can hinder your recovery.

  • Get lots of sleep.
  • After surgery, take it easy for a few weeks to allow your body to heal.
  • Eat well and drink plenty of water.
  • Keep an eye on your incisions.
  • Prefer moderate, low-intensity exercise.

Depending on the patient's health, gynecomastia surgery can be either major or mild.

Initially, there is frequently some numbness and loss of sensation, but this is almost always only temporary. Your nipple sensitivity should resemble what it was prior to surgery after a year. Further generic information is available from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Be sure to prop yourself up with pillows and sleep on your back. This will facilitate getting out of bed. For two weeks after your procedure, refrain from sleeping on your stomach or your side.
